My Experiences with Rhinoplasty

Recently, I had a new experience with rhinoplasty (well, not me actually but some close friends of mine).  Several of my friends got rhinoplasty surgery, it started as a kind of chain reaction.  Although none of them had previously considered it, one of them went and got the surgery (which came at a significant surprise to myself).  However, what surprised me the most was how subtle but effective the surgery was, she still looked like herself, just better.

After she was so satisfied with the experience, it actually lead several more of her friends into considering the surgery.  It was cheaper than most anticipated (although I’m still not sure about the exact prices, I do know they were pleasantly surprised by the price).  Mostly though, it was easier and quicker than anyone thought possible.  Overall, they all reported it to be a fairly painless experience.  Although I don’t normally write about things like this, I’d figured I would give it a shot since I found it so interesting.

Most of my friends went through the site http://nycrhinoplastydirectory.com.  It only works if you are located in New York City, so you may have to find different resources depending on where you live.  From their advice, it seems important that you do your due diligence on the surgeon of your choice to make sure they have a reputation of doing a good job.  Although I myself won’t be getting the surgery (I’m very happy with my nose as is), I can tell you my friends that did get the surgery would recommend it to anyone considering it.  All considered, rhinoplasty sounds like a surprisingly effective surgery, especially if your nose is causing you discomfort or embarrassment.

The Best Health Habits You Can Apply Today

There are some easy and basic health tips you can apply to improve your quality of life today:

  • Drink more water!  The average American suffers from chronic mild dehydration due to constantly drinking less water than they should.  Just adding a cup of water every couple hours will solve this problem and leave you feeling healthier and happier.
  • Stretch after you get up and before you go to bed.  This will not only leave your limbs better feeling, it may prevent stiffness and reduce chance of injury in your daily life.
  • Drink more tea.  Tea has been proven to improve health and the immune system, and it’s a simple and easy way that you can make a change for the better in your lifestyle.
  • Eat more fruit!  A recent Australian study that surveyed over 12,000 people found that increasing your fruit consumption from 0 to 8 servings daily can increase your happiness by as much as the difference between unemployment and employment.  With a difference that significant, it’s worth a try.
  • Split 3 large meals up into 6 smaller ones.  This is not only natural, but allows you to eat just as much food while letting the weight drop off.  It’s a simple trick used by bodybuilders, and it allows your metabolism to simply stay continually active instead of occasionally overloading with food all at once.

Jogging Tips

Jogging is the primary way people resort to in order to get in shape, lose weight, and feel better about themselves.  What they often don’t know, is you can get twice the impact from the same amount of exercise just by doing it right.  Here are some easy things you can do to get more benefit out of the same activity:

  • Use technology in order to help you maximize your efforts.  Heart monitoring, step counting, distance measuring, and timing are just some of the basic things that technology can help incorporate into your jogging routine.
  • Wear the best clothes.  Don’t just go jogging in anything.  Spending the money to get top quality athletic clothes that are flexible, breathable, and durable will be more than worth it.
  • Get the best running shoes.  That means finding shoes actually designed for running, and shoes that fit you properly.  Shoes that are even a little bit too small or too big won’t give you best running experience, and will even cause sore feet and blisters.
  • Keep your upper body upright.  Don’t give in to the temptation to hunch over or close your shoulders and lower your head (which becomes an issue the more tired you get).  Keep your upper body upright and your back straight.
  • Go for longer but more relaxed runs.  This is what really works your body best and can prevent injuries, especially in your early days of running.
  • Even walk if you need to.  Don’t stop running and break completely, but if even a slow pace doesn’t give you the stamina you need, just walk until you catch your breath.  Repeat this process until you finish.
  • Stretch before AND after.  Remember, short stretches before and long stretches afterwards.  Both will prevent injuries, keep your joints feeling better, and help combat soreness.

Finding the Best Acupuncture in Canada

For those of you who are Canadian like myself (and interested in acupuncture as well), I have decided to write a piece detailing some of the results my research has come across recently. For starters, finding acupuncture can be an incredibly difficult process in my opinion.  Acupuncture clinics vary wildly, many are great and reputable establishments while others are shady back room type set-ups.  Fortunately, I’ve found a great resource that I now refer to every time I’m looking for acupuncture in a different location called FindAcupuncture.ca.  For example, you could check out their listings for acupuncture Red Deer and see the best local results.

If you are looking for acupuncture news and information, I highly suggest heading over to www.acupuncturetoday.com.  It has great information on the uses and different treatments of acupuncture, and does a great job keeping up with the latest news and info. They are always very accurate in what they report (something you have to keep in mind when looking in the acupuncture market).

Otherwise, you can  always use Google Reviews and other websites to determine if previous customers have had positive experiences or not.  It’s important to keep in mind that acupuncture is 100% safe, when done properly.  If done improperly, it can pose a major health risk.  Any established and reputable establishment will do it safely and properly every time, so if you get nervous or unsure, always be safe and make sure before you commit.  By educating yourself on the basics of acupuncture, you can help to understand exactly what they are doing (and if they are doing it right).  This way, you can pick out those who are dishonest or amoral right away.  By using a reputable and trustworthy directory, you can let someone else do the research for you.   Still, always double check yourself before you go.

3 Tips for Brushing Your Teeth

  1. Focus on the Gums, not the Teeth Themselves.  The area around and on the gums and teeth is where plaque is most likely to accumulate.  Most people however, miss this crucial area and focus too much on the center of the tooth.  Plaque build-up on the gum line can cause them to permanently recede, making the tooth more unstable and susceptible to injury and erosion.
  2. Clean Your Tongue As Well.  One of the most common reasons people brush their teeth is to give them fresh breath.  Sadly, if you’re one of these people you might be missing the mark…but not by much.  If you are looking to eliminate bad breath, instead focus on cleaning your tongue as thoroughly as possible.  Bacteria buildup on your tongue is the primary source of bad breath in most people.  If you want to be as effective as possible, you can even get a tongue scraper.
  3. Use proper technique.  You can follow every other guideline and recommendation out there, if you use poor technique, your teeth brushing will consistently be ineffective.  Make short strokes in an up and down motion, making little circles as you go.  Hold the toothbrush at a 45 degree angle.  You don’t need to apply a lot of pressure, in fact that is more likely to damage your teeth than help them.  Lastly, make sure you reach all of the hard to get to areas, as they are where plaque builds up the most (and subsequently where cavities are most likely to form).

Does Acupuncture Work?

There is a lot of discussion out there on whether acupuncture works or not.  Acupuncture is an alternative medicine technique that originated in China.  Today, it is widely used all over the world to treat a variety of conditions and illnesses.  Included in it’s common use is sports therapy, migraines, and arthritis.  It works by hitting certain pressure points in the body to manipulate the nervous system.

Acupuncture is a popular and effective alternative medicine.  Those who have used it will testify to it’s effectiveness and even painlessness.  A common benefit is the effects, unlike drugs, are felt immediately.  Finding a reputable acupuncture outfit however, can prove difficult.  The industry is largely unregulated, so make sure you do your resesrch before choosing!
